Abstract

The rapid advancement of modern technology, global communication, and evolving social norms has contributed to the rise of various new practices within contemporary Muslim societies. Many of these practices, although culturally appealing, often blur the line between permissible innovation and religiously prohibited bid‘ah (innovation in matters of faith). This paper examines the growing trends of religious innovations by exploring their social, psychological, and cultural roots, as well as their influence on Muslim belief and practice. Using Qur’anic principles and Prophetic traditions as a framework, the study clarifies the criteria for distinguishing beneficial worldly innovations from blameworthy religious innovations. The analysis further highlights the significance of adhering to authentic Islamic teachings to preserve religious purity and spiritual integrity in an era of rapid change. Ultimately, the paper underscores the need for scholarly guidance and community awareness to counter the spread of unfounded innovations and to promote a balanced, informed approach to religious practice.
