Abstract

God created humanity from both male and female, establishing a relationship between the sexes grounded in affection, mercy, and mutual respect. By nature, women are inclined toward gentleness and compassion. When the relationship between genders—particularly within marriage—is marred by physical or psychological violence, the resulting societal structure is destabilized, and peace is lost. Violence against women, especially in its psychological form, profoundly damages a woman’s emotional stability, sense of security, and self-worth.

This concise study addresses the phenomenon of psychological violence against women within the framework of Islamic Sharia. It focuses on four critical dimensions: psychological abuse in marital relationships, the right to education, the right to inheritance, and the right to marriage. Psychological violence is defined as behaviors or actions that undermine a woman’s dignity, restrict her rights, or inflict emotional or social harm—whether through verbal humiliation, intimidation, deprivation, or coercion.

Islamic Sharia establishes marital relationships on a foundation of love and mercy, strictly forbidding any form of emotional or psychological abuse. It protects a woman's right to education and inheritance, and firmly condemns any attempt to deprive her of these entitlements. Moreover, Islam upholds a woman's right to freely choose her spouse without coercion or social pressure.

Through a careful analysis of Islamic legal and ethical principles, this study concludes that Sharia offers a comprehensive and protective framework that combats psychological violence, reinforces women’s dignity, and promotes emotional security and self-confidence within society. The study calls for increased awareness of Islamic legal teachings to prevent such forms of abuse, alongside the implementation of legal and social mechanisms to ensure women's protection and empowerment.
