Abstract

This study examined the differences in school climate between public and private secondary schools and their relationship with students’ academic achievement. Data were collected on key dimensions of school climate, including teacher support, student engagement, safety, and disciplinary practices. The findings reveal that private schools generally provide a more positive school climate, which is associated with higher academic performance compared to public schools. Factors such as smaller class sizes, stronger teacher-student relationships, and more effective disciplinary policies in private schools contribute to this advantage. The study also acknowledges the influence of socio-economic and family background factors, suggesting that while school climate is a critical predictor of achievement, external variables also play a role. Policy implications emphasize the need for public schools to invest in creating supportive and safe learning environments to enhance student outcomes. Future research should explore longitudinal effects and the moderating impact of socio-economic variables on school climate and achievement.
