The use of allusions in the poetry of Suleiman Simabi adds a new dimension of style and meaning to the traditional themes of Urdu ghazal. His poetry creatively incorporates religious, historical, and classical romantic references, showcasing his literary prowess while expanding the thematic depth of Urdu poetry. By employing allusions to legendary tales such as Yusuf and Zulaikha, Farhad and Shirin, and by referencing renowned Urdu poets like Ghalib, Josh, Jigar, Akhtar Sheerani, and Hafeez Jalandhari, Simabi does not merely enhance poetic beauty but also conveys profound intellectual and mystical experiences. This study critically analyzes the thematic and artistic aspects of allusions in Simabi’s poetry, concluding that his work represents a unique and impactful trend in Urdu ghazal—one that beautifully blends tradition with innovation.
