CHARITABLE FINANCING AND ITS IMPACT ON ENHANCING THE PRESERVATION OF THE NECESSITY OF RELIGION A DESCRIPTIVE AND ANALYTICAL STUDY

Abstract

This study examines the role of charitable financing as a fundamental means of protecting the necessity of religion, which is considered the highest objective among the objectives of Islamic law (Maqasid al-Shariah). The role of charitable financing -such as Zakat, charity (Sadaqah), and endowments (Awqaf)- is not limited to merely meeting the basic needs of the poor and needy, but extends further to serve as a tool for preserving identity and strengthening the doctrinal independence of the Muslim community.

The study also highlights its impact on preserving religion from the aspect of existence (protection through promotion), by supporting educational institutions, spreading authentic Islamic knowledge, providing financial support for preachers, and utilizing modern technological tools to reach different segments of society. It also emphasizes its role in preserving religion from the aspect of non-existence (protection through prevention), as charitable financing acts as a preventive shield that protects the poor from doctrinal exploitation and dependency that may result from poverty and need.

Furthermore, the study presents the concepts of interest-free loans (Qarz Hasan) and social solidarity as sound Islamic alternatives to usurious transactions and prohibited financial practices that negatively affect an individual’s spiritual and moral integrity.

The study also stresses the necessity of shifting charitable work from a traditional relief-based approach, which is limited to temporary assistance, to an empowerment-based approach that transforms beneficiaries into productive and self-reliant individuals. This can be achieved through the investment of endowment funds, the use of modern financial technologies, and crowdfunding, in order to ensure the financial sustainability of major religious projects. In doing so, charitable financing becomes a developmental force capable of confronting ideological and economic challenges while preserving purity of intention and efficiency of means.
