Abstract

Movies are powerful cultural tools that shape youth behavior, values, and worldviews in a globalized society. With exposure to diverse film industries such as Hollywood and Bollywood, young individuals are influenced in how they perceive relationships, conflict, and social roles. This study examines the impact of movie content on youth behavior, highlighting both positive and negative outcomes.

A quantitative research design was employed, using a structured questionnaire administered to 200 undergraduate students at the University of Okara. The instrument assessed movie consumption patterns alongside behavioral variables, including aggression, empathy, relationship perceptions, and curiosity toward substance use. Data were analyzed using SPSS through correlation and regression techniques.

Findings revealed that exposure to violent movies was associated with increased aggression, while romantic films contributed to unrealistic expectations regarding relationships. Substance-related content was linked to heightened curiosity toward risky behaviors despite cultural restrictions. Conversely, socially conscious films positively influenced empathy, tolerance, and civic responsibility.

The study contributes to limited research on media influence within the Pakistani context and emphasizes the importance of media literacy. It highlights the need for responsible filmmaking and informed guidance from parents and educators. Overall, movies function as significant agents of socialization, capable of both shaping harmful behaviors and promoting positive social development among youth.
