This research study presents a comprehensive comparative analysis of the Prophetic Sunnah (Seerat-un-Nabawiﷺ)and theUnited Nations Charter on Global Peace in both theoretical and practical dimensions. The study aims to elucidate the extent to which the principles, foundations, and implementation of peace differ or converge in these two systems. In the Prophetic Sunnah, peace is a holistic, ethical, and human-centered concept, prioritizing the protection of human life, dignity, property, equality, and justice. The Prophet ﷺ not only established ethical principles for collective peace but also demonstrated practical models through historical events such as the Constitution of Medina (Mithaq-e-Madina), Treaty of Hudaybiyyah (Sulh-e-Hudaybiyyah), andConquest of Makkah (Fath Makkah), exemplifyingconflict resolution, tolerance, and moral wisdom in practice. In contrast, the UN Charter frames peace primarily within a legal, political, and institutional framework. It provides mechanisms for resolving international conflicts, ensuring collective security, and protecting human rights through legal and political measures. However, its practical implementation is often constrained by the interests of powerful states, the use of veto power, and political pressures.
The study undertakes a detailed comparative examination of the key dimensions: theoretical foundations of peace, human rights, justice and equality, power and ethics, and methods of conflict resolution. The findings reveal that the principles of peace in the Prophetic Sunnah are more comprehensive, ethical, human-centered, and enduring, whereas the UN Charter’s mechanisms for maintaining peace are primarily limited to legal and political considerations. This research not only provides historical and intellectual context but also highlights the relevance and applicability of the Prophetic model of peace in addressing contemporary global conflicts and human rights challenges. Consequently, it offers a significant scholarly foundation for the theoretical and practical comparison of global peace frameworks and underscores the practical importance of Islamic principles of peace in the modern international system.
