Islam is intrinsically a religion of peace, moderation, tolerance, and moral restraint. Contrary to common Western misconceptions that associate Islam with extremism and violence, this study examines religious tolerance through the exemplary life (Uswah -e- Ḥasanah) of the Prophet Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ. The research critically evaluates historical allegations against Islam and argues that religious extremism largely stems from the distortion of divine teachings in earlier religious traditions rather than from Islamic doctrine itself.
Drawing upon historical and biographical sources, the paper highlights the holly Prophet’s consistent practice of patience, forgiveness, and non-violence in the face of persecution. Key events such as the Treaty of Madinah, the Conquest of Makkah, and the Prophet’s interactions with Jews, Christians, hypocrites, and former enemies demonstrate Islam’s commitment to religious freedom, human dignity, and peaceful coexistence. The study further emphasizes Islam’s balanced approach to worship and social conduct, rejecting excess and compulsion.
The paper concludes that linking Islam with terrorism reflects prejudice rather than historical reality. In an increasingly interconnected world, a fair and objective study of the Prophet Muhammad’s life is essential for promoting interfaith understanding, religious harmony, and global peace.
