Abstract

This study analyzes the linguistic method of Ibn Qutaybah in Taʾwīl Mushkil al-Qurʾān by examining selected verses from the section on the substitution of descriptive particles. It clarifies how he addressed linguistic ambiguities and linked grammatical explanations to Qur’anic context.

The research begins by distinguishing key terms—such as mushkil, gharīb, majāz, and wujūh wa-naẓāʾir—based on scholarly usage. Using a comparative analytical approach, it combines theory and application to outline Ibn Qutaybah’s exegetical approach and linguistic reasoning
