Abstract

In Islam, the social status of women is noteworthy. In the early days of Islam, women participated alongside men in jihad and other external matters. However, the overall leadership and responsibility remained in the hands of men. Nonetheless, in permissible matters, considering women's advice in marital life strengthens the institution of marriage and the family system. Therefore, whether the work outside the home is social, societal, or economic, it is essential for women to take their husbands into confidence.

Female companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) performed various duties in different fields. They would serve water to the wounded, grind grain, and spin thread. It is clearly established that a woman’s financial needs are the responsibility of the man. Regarding housing and living arrangements, it is the husband's duty to meet all the woman’s needs.

Women can play a vital role in society through education. It was through the invitation of Fatima bint al-Khattab that Umar ibn al-Khattab accepted Islam, and it was through the teachings of Umm Sulaym that Abu Talhah embraced Islam. Women’s first and foremost right in society is the right to education. If a woman is educated at the social level, she can raise and teach her children properly. However, if a woman lacks basic knowledge of the Qur’an and Hadith, it will negatively affect society, as her children will also grow up ignorant. The mother plays the most significant role in the upbringing of society, and if she is uneducated, it leads to societal decline.

Secondly, it is essential for a woman to protect her household wealth and her dignity.
The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

"There are four things that, if a person is given, they have been granted the goodness of this world and the Hereafter: a grateful heart, a tongue that remembers Allah, a body patient in adversity, and a wife who protects herself and her husband’s wealth in his presence and absence."
