A METHODOLOGY OF MOLANA UBAIDULLAH SINDHI IN THE COHERENCE OF QURANIC SURAHS

Abstract

This research clarifies the methodology of Molana Ubaidullah Sindhi regarding the coherence of Surahs (Nazm al-Surah) which he adopted in his tafsir “Al-Maqam Al-Mahmood”.Molana Sindhi believed in the interconnection (coherence) between verses and Surahs and considered it a highly significant subject.Molana Sindhi was greatly influenced by the methodology and teachings of Shah Waliullah, and he benefited immensely from them.However, while Shah Waliullah acknowledged the coherence between verses and Surahs, he did not place much emphasis on it.In contrast, Molana Sindhi gave considerable attention to the coherence of verses and Surahs, and in this regard, he benefited greatly from Sheikh-ul-Hind Molana Mahmood Hasan Deobandi.Thus, Molana Sindhi believed in the concept of coherence in the Qur’an, provided that the methodology of the predecessors regarding Nazm al-Qur’an is kept in view.
